MLK DAY OF SERVICE 2017
Thank you again to all who participated in the 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. This event was not only a day of service, but a celebration of our mutual commitment to give back to those in need and those whose mission is to serve others. The Native Youth Wellness Corps, a project of Southwest Youth Services would like to also thank and acknowledge collaborating organizations that helped to make this year’s day of service so successful: the Native American Community Academy, the Petroglyph National Monument, LaPlazita Institute, Road Runner Food Bank, City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the Native Health Initiative, Native American Concepts, the Harvard Zuckerman Fellows Program, DJ Breakaway, Monroe’s New Mexican Food, Cocina Azul, Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School, community volunteers and our AmeriCorps VISTA members. A day of service is great way to start 2017!

The state of New Mexico also received recognition as the #7th state in the US for AmeriCorps programming. Wendy Spencer, CNCS CEO, Albuquerque Mayor, Richard Berry and Michael Garcia, CNCS State Director hosted this memorable event on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Kimo Theatre in Albuquerque. It was an honor for SYS staff to attend and witness the swearing in of new AmeriCorps members. SYS is proud to be a sponsor site for AmeriCorps VISTA for 8 years! Congratulations AmeriCorps!

Southwest Youth Services in partnership with United Healthcare had a Fall Festival/Coat Drive at the Albuquerque Indian Center. We served a warm Thanksgiving dinner to the community.
