Kara Bobroff (Navajo/Lakota), President
Kara is the founding Principal of the Native American Community Academy (NACA). In 2006 she was identified as one of the “Best Emerging Social Entrepreneurial People” in the United States. Additionally, she was awarded a national Echoing Green Fellowship to establish NACA, as one of the first urban American Indian academies to support language, culture, health, and college preparation for Native youth.
James McKenzie (Diné), Vice President
James is Interim Director of Diné Policy Institute. Since 2010 he has worked with Diné cultural experts, policy makers, scholars and community members to address policy issues for the Navajo Nation. In addition, he has served in the non-profit arena, working extensively with educators and communities throughout the Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo Nations in New Mexico and Arizona on educational initiatives related to leadership development and mentorship.
Tyler A. Fish (Cherokee/Muscogee-Creek), Secretary/Treasurer
Tyler is a legal professional currently serving as a special adviser at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Tyler is a former U.S. Marine, Presidential Management Fellow, Gates Millennial Scholar, and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma-College of Law. Tyler is Cherokee and Muscogee-Creek from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Sharral Yepa (Jemez)
Sharral is one of the founding youth members of Southwest Youth Services. She has worked part-time with SYS for the past 7-years while pursuing her nursing degree at the University of New Mexico.
