Internship Celebration Dinner & 15 interns continuing – December 18, 2015

Southwest Youth Services hosted an internship celebration dinner at the Sandia Resort & Casino on December 18, 2015. This wonderful ceremony was held for interns who completed this 6-month internship program. We were able to recognize all the students and present them with program completion certificates. We also presented our Top 4 interns who went above and beyond in the program with gift baskets and Boba Tea gift cards. Following the celebration dinner, we were able to extend our program into 2016 for 15 interns who want to continue in hopes of reaching their Education Awards.

Shiprock Winter Family Festival – December 17, 2015

The UnitedHealthcare staff invited Southwest Youth Services to participate in the opening of their new UnitedHealthcare Resource Center. The entire community of Shiprock was invited to this free community event, where they were provided with a free dinner and giveaways throughout the night. The community was also provided with a free bundle of wood for attending the event. SYS staff assisted with loading over 125 bundles of wood and over 400 meals were served. Arts and crafts tables were provided for the children in attendance as well. Healthcare/Medicaid services were available on site through our student interns.

Albuquerque Indian Center Coat Drive – November 18, 2015

Southwest Youth Services in partnership with UnitedHealthcare hosted its first Family Fall Festival and Coat Drive on November 18, 2015. This was held at the Albuquerque Indian Center and was attended by over 500 people. Over 250 donated coats were given to adults and children! A hot holiday themed meal was provided to all attendees, as well as various door prizes were announced throughout the night. Children were able to make holiday crafts and enjoy face painting activities. Healthcare/Medicaid services were available on site through our student interns.

New Interns Welcomed Into Program – August 29, 2015

SYS welcomed 33 new interns to the Native Youth Internship Program. These young leaders will be providing healthcare information to our Native communities. Big thanks to the SYS UHC Team for providing such a great training!

Native American Youth Internship Program Launched – June 3 & 4, 2015

Southwest Youth Services welcomed our new interns to the SYS family. Training for our Health Literacy program was hosted at the Courtyard Marriott located in Albuquerque, NM. We are very grateful to provide Native youth with an opportunity to better themselves and their communities. Big thanks to Darryl Madalena and Buffie Saavedra from United Healthcare for assisting us in this new endeavor.
